The Tiruvallur policeon Saturday arrested eight people in connection with the murder of the former panchayat president of Thirumazhisai. Police arrested Rajesh, Isaac and six others for hacking to death 49-year-old Thangaraj.
Police said Rajesh was the son of Manoharan who was hacked to death in 1998.
Thangaraj was the prime accused in the case. Police sources said Rajesh has confessed that he and his associates killed Thangaraj to avenge his father's death.
On Friday a six-member gang on motorcycles cornered Thangaraj, a brick kiln owner, while he was out for a morning walk with two others. TNNThe gang singled out the former panchayat president and attacked him.
Police said the assailants did not flee immediately but made sure Thangaraj was dead before speeding away.
Police produced the eight produced before a court that sent them to judicial custody.
